ABSTRACT

This study was carried out to examine prison & crime control, Owerri , Imo State. Specifically, the study examined the various reasons that account for high crime rate in Imo state. The study also  examine the effect high crime rate in Imo state. The study further find out if rehabilitation as a tool can help in reducing crime rate in Imo state. Lastly the study  find out strategy that can be used in curbing high crime rate in Imo state. The study employed the survey descriptive research design. A total of 110 responses were validated from the survey. From the responses obtained and analyzed, the findings revealed that one of the strategies that can be used to curb crime is to help ex-offenders find secure living-wage employment. Also, another  way to curb crime is to monitor public surveillance camera. Furthermore  Crimes can be curbed by Connecting returning prisoners to stable housing. Lastly , We can also use  DNA evidence to curb crime. The study hereby recommend that the government of Imo state should make sure there are security operatives around who can at least create the fear of not trying to commit crime. Also the prison rehabilitation center should be improved and and qualified personnel should be employed to help in the rehabilitation of prisoners
